I know we have a few 944 owners here. Is there a 944 pre-buy checklist somewhere? I found one that ticks the correct box (price & color) and given that I'm getting a bigger tax check than I thought, (and my other post about "now is the time for a second car") the stars may be aligning correctly for me. Yes, it's not the Alpine that I really want, but I can save up for that later.

Yep! Here, a lot of folks buying 944s in decent condition get a Porsche shop to do a pre-purchase inspection for you as well. Shouldn't cost too much and ends up saving you a bunch of money later if they find something's amiss.
